01what it is

What it does.

Record medications, dosages, pill counts and schedules; get reminders; see what was dispensed, taken, skipped or missed; and let a caregiver you choose see what you share. The app connects to a software-simulated dispenser and says so in a banner on every screen — there is no physical dispenser yet.

The live product.

medication-dispenser-site.vercel.app
The Medication Dispenser product site: a heading reading Track medications, schedules and doses in one place, a notice that this is a demo release with no physical dispenser, and lists of what the app does and does not do

Says what it is. The product site leads with the limitation: a demo release, a simulated dispenser, not medical advice.

03engineering

How it is built.

A pnpm monorepo: the Expo app, a Fastify and Prisma API that owns scheduling and safety rules, a versioned Zod-validated device protocol, a full software simulator with fault injection, and a Playwright suite that drives the real API and database.

  • decision 01The device is the authority for each dose occurrence, so a dispense is applied at most once even when the phone and device disagree.
  • decision 02Every hardware-dependent constant lives in one place, marked as to be determined, so real hardware specifications can be dropped in without a rewrite.
